About 10 years ago, I made a place on blogspot (blogger? Was it always called that?) for the intent of furthering my social interactions, I was a step or two ahead of my peers in the 'tech game' (I could name three more websites than just facebook) and put this site out there for my classmates to visit. A bunch of kids had followed suit in making their own blogs, as we had just missed myspace and Facebook was a little too impersonal. The idea of just having your own space on the internet was very tantalising, this personal cardboard box of your own- sitting quitely on the dirty alleys in the busy cities of social media to scream thoughts and vomit into. I imagine this is how a homeless person feels.
Where a lot of my friends had given up on it quite quickly- I mean, why do anything on the internet if you're not getting attention and/or paid for it, right? This place remained and found new purpose as a comic repository for an incredibly niche audience (me and my friends). It sort of hit me just now- I've been doing comics for far longer than I thought, neat!
As a nice bookend to a website full of comics that no one reads, you might be interested to know that I'm still doing that.
I've jumped from fanfiction about real life people (kinda like that weird shit people do with e-celebs) to...fanfiction about video games! An astonishing lateral move that's sure to move me up in the world. I'm actually having kind of a blast with it, all this old stuff has made me realize my passion for writing things had always existed, and has only reinforced my confidence, so that's cool.
It's a metaphor, probably. |
This was a nice trip through memory lane, I think it'd be nice to leave some kind of closure for it, especially as how the Ryan Takanashi saga had not quite ended as I had hoped, not every story has a happy ending, I guess, but the spirit of wacky therapy sessions in a digestible comic format ambles on, anon...
